Other State Quality Award Programs
Wisconsin Forward Award is part of an exciting Performance Excellence Alliance of our nation’s state and local quality award programs that are working in concert to benchmark and share best practices. Learn more about other state quality award programs here.

American Society for Quality (ASQ)
The American Society for Quality (ASQ), headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, has been the world’s leading authority on quality since 1946. The 104,000-member professional association creates better workplaces and communities worldwide by advancing learning, quality improvement, and knowledge exchange to improve business results. By making quality a global priority, an organizational imperative, and a personal ethic, ASQ becomes the community for everyone who seeks technology, concepts, or tools to improve themselves and their world.

ASQ offers Baldrige professional networks for both health care and education sectors.

ASQ believes that being “socially responsible” means people and organizations must behave ethically and with sensitivity toward social, cultural, economic, and environmental issues. Striving for social responsibility helps individuals, organizations, and governments have a positive impact on development, business, and society. ASQ administers the U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) on Social Responsibility. The third draft of the ISO Social Responsibility Standard is available for public viewing.

ASQ’s 2008 Quality Institute for Healthcare (QIHC) is taking place in Houston, Texas May 5–7, 2008. This conference will provide hands-on instruction on advances and best practices in the use of system and quality engineering tools, methods and systems in healthcare. The theme of this year’s conference is Leading a partnership between systems engineering and care delivery professionals. Building upon the NAE/IOM report Building a Better Delivery System: A New Engineering/Health Care Partnership, sessions and workshops have been designed to not only demonstrate the use of tools and methods, but to focus on how systems and quality engineers, clinicians and healthcare leaders can best partner to build a better delivery organizations.

Conference hands-on workshops include:

  • Avoiding Random Acts of Improvement with Baldrige
  • Perfect Care: Implementing Baldrige Best Practices

Also taking place will be the awarding of the Juran Certificate to Sr. Mary Jean Ryan, President and Chief Executive Officer of SSM Health Care (SSMHC), one of the largest Catholic health care systems in the United States and the first health care recipient of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.

Click here to visit the QIHC website, or click here to download a conference brochure and registration materials (.pdf).

The Team & Participation Forum

The Forum is the successor organization to the Association for Quality and Participation which merged with ASQ in 2004. As one of two Forums at ASQ (the other is the Six Sigma Forum), the Teamwork & Participation Forum provides a platform for the “people” side of Quality. The Forum aims to attract and energize individuals and organizations who are convinced that people really are our greatest asset and the key to organizational and competitive success.

Madison Area Quality Improvement Network (MAQIN)
WFA is proud to be a member of MAQIN—in fact, we work so collaboratively with MAQIN we even share office space. Visit the MAQIN site for a information about training and networking opportunities, as well as MAQIN’s resource library.

Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP)
The North Central Association is one of six regional educational accrediting associations in the U.S. The Higher Learning Commission, part of NCA, launched the Academic Quality Improvement Program in 1999 as an alterative process for NCA-accredited colleges to maintain their accreditation.  In a process much like the Baldrige and Forward processes, applicants submit a Systems Portfolio (application) in which they create an Organizational Overview and respond to questions in nine categories.  A team of NCA Examiners assesses the Portfolio and creates a Feedback Report.

Several Word documents (.doc) are available for download illustrating the similarities, differences, and relationships between AQIP and the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence. Comparisons are available illustrating each program's overall model, core values, and criteria.

American Society for Training and Development (ASTD)
ASTD is devoted to issues of workplace learning and the success of performance professionals in organizations of all sizes. It provides resources, network opportunities, and access to a vast seledtion of discounted conferences, products and services to its members. Local chapters are available in northwest, northeast, southeast, and south central Wisconsin.

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM)
SHRM is the world's largest association devoted to human resource management. Representing more than 200,000 individual members, the Society's mission is toserve the needs of HR professionals by providing the most essential andcomprehensive resources available. As an influential voice, the Society'smission is also to advance the human resource profession to ensure that HR isrecognized as an essential partner in developing and executing organizational strategy.
